Beyond our Operations
As leaders in the industry and responsible corporate citizens we are engaged in issues of national and global significance where we feel it is our duty to lead towards solutions. JSPL does not toe the conventional line of being engaged only with social commitment to issues that affect our business. The boundaries of our concern and action go beyond the peripheries of our business and site locations.
Right to hoist the Indian Flag
For many years the Chairman of JSPL Mr Naveen Jindal campaigned relentlessly for the right of every Indian citizen to hoist the national flag. The Flag Foundation, which he established in 2002, was a part of this campaign. On January 23, 2004, the Supreme Court of India ruled in favour of Mr Jindal and said that it was the fundamental right of Indian citizens to hoist the national flag on all days of the year.
Acceptance of Indian rupee at duty free shops
Similarly, after three years of advocacy, on September 26, 2005 the Chairman of JSPL Mr Naveen Jindal convinced the Indian government that Duty Free shops at Indian airports must accepted the Indian rupee. Before this, these shops accepted only US dollars.
Citizen’s Alliance for Reproductive Health and Rights
On 1 February 2012 the Chairman of JSPL Mr Naveen Jindal created the Citizen’s Alliance for Reproductive Health and Rights. This initiative brings together members of Parliament, civil society and media to ensure that every child is wanted, that every child-birth is safe and that every mother is healthy. It reinforces the position of women as decision makers in family planning.
